FAITH INTO ACTION
When he read about an elections
complaint alleging illegal fundraising activities among the groups
gathering signatures to roll back our equality laws, Eugene pastor Rev.
Dr. Daniel Bryant was concerned.
He knew the groups were using churches
as a base for their efforts, so Rev. Dr. Bryant wrote a letter reaching
out to other pastors to warn them about the misleading and unlawful
fundraising tactics revealed in the complaint.
His letter drew a lot of attention,
including a bizarre release from one of the fringe groups named in the
complaint that accused Rev. Dr. Bryant of being part of a
"cabal" and calling the complaint itself "Oregon's own
9/11."
The Eugene Register Guard had a
different take. In an editorial last Sunday, they praised Rev. Dr.
Bryant's efforts, calling him "a tireless advocate for religious
tolerance and a courageous supporter of gay rights." We couldn't
agree more.
We applaud the Rev. Dr. Dan Bryant for
standing up for all Oregonians, and for the commitment to equality and
justice that is rooted in his faith.
